{"id":784,"date":"2010-04-09T19:35:59","date_gmt":"2010-04-09T11:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rice4life.sg\/bulletin\/?p=784"},"modified":"2010-04-10T12:39:30","modified_gmt":"2010-04-10T04:39:30","slug":"day-4-visits-to-village-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rice4life.sg\/bulletin\/news-updates\/day-4-visits-to-village-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 4 &#8211; Visits to village schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Today we visited 3 village schools more than 10 km distant from Siem Reap.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The schools were founded by Chheang Phalla, a monk and teacher at Wat Preah Dak in the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park area.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The schools have been established in villages more than 10 kilometers north-east of Siem Reap: Preah Dak, Tatrey, Ouotoeng, Than, Tany, Khmar Sonday, Salakrovann and Runteak .<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">They are supported by the Cambodia Child and Hope Association (CCAHA).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Since we have established our own English classes at Khvien, we were interested to see how these other schools operate and their teaching methods of teaching English to impoverished village children.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">They also teach phonetically which also is of great interest to us.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The three schools we visited were firstly at the pagoda at Preah Dak, where Margaret eagerly participated in teaching and then the smaller schools at other villages, termed Branch 2 and Branch 4.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>We were amazed at their teaching results! In one class taught by our friend Kourosh (see other posts concerning KILT) Khmer children with just 3 months class tuition were reading English fluently!
