Where to now for Bel’s amputee group?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the devastation caused by Typhoon Ketsana, much re-building is necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the members of Khmer Independent Life Team (KILT) this is almost \u2018a bridge too far\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 18 members are led by Bel Muy, an amputee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their only income since the flooding is a jewellery program (which needs to be enhanced)and 4 members work in a restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are hoping to re-start rice milling and have plans to re-establish themselves on another site.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their present house is located 5 km from Siem Reap and is rented for US$200 p.m. <\/span><\/p>\n

The plan now is to relocate to ano9ther site with a rental of $50 pm and on that land to erect their own building. Materials would cost around $300.<\/span><\/p>\n

Karoush suggests that in the future they should use a milling machine rather than by hand and such a machine would also cost around $300.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s estimated that to establish KILT on a new site will need US$2,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

For our part, we see that it\u2019s advantageous to RICE4LIFE having KILT operating again, it ensures we have consistent supply of good rice with honest weights and at a good price.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, our funds paying for rice are not only benefitting Khvien teachers but also the KILT community.<\/span><\/p>\n
