(Margaret will be bringing a supply back to Australia for sale; the proceeds will be used for the school projects.)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">RECHARGING OF BATTERIES<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">Villagers power their meagre lighting (and Mr Ournn&#8217;s TV set!!!) with car batteries. Of course, they need constant recharging. One villager has a petrol driven generator and he offers a re-charging service.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">Costs are:\u00a0\u00a0 Small sized battery\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 500 Riel<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Medium size battery\u00a0\u00a0 1,500 Riel<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Large battery\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a03,000 Riel<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">[4,200 Riel = 1 Australian dollar]<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">CASH CROPS<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">Sweet potatoes (see post entitled &#8220;Staying Alive&#8221;)\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">SELLING TO THE TOURISTS<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;\">The usual items sold by children from Khvein village are books (describing some aspect of Cambodian life and history), postcards, bracelets, and Cambodian scarves (&#8220;gror-maa&#8221;). These items are bought from a man from Siem Reap who acts a a wholesaler to the children in the Angkor Wat carpark. The margin is very small by western commercial standards and\u00a0someone like G&#8230;.. may go for days without selling a book.
