The Prize-giving

Today, our final full day at Khvein school, was the Prize-Giving at the school.

This morning Margaret presented book prizes to top students from years 5 and 6.

We started with year 6 and School Director Mr Hon, read out the names as class teacher Mr Ournn called them to the front of the classroom where Margaret was waiting to give them their book prizes.

The book prizes were selected by Margaret ahead of this trip and a kind donation allowed Margaret to fly to the capital city, Phnom Penh, to buy the books there. The book selected is a fine coloured book of the Bible in story and picture form.

Then on to class 5 where again class teacher Mom Mara (a lady teacher in traditional Khmer dress) called the children forward for Margaret to hand them their prizes.

This afternoon we repeated this with class 4 who have a lady teacher, Touch Kim Leang.

Many of the children were given cloth bags to carry their gorgeous prizes home. By afternoon the monsoon rain had returned.

This then is almost the end of our visit before we must depart.

Our ‘grants’ to the school this trip have been US$8,000. Regrettably during this trip we have lost a considerable amount of value in the Australian dollar which has given us an unexpected burden of around 25%.
