Things are moving fast now with another school being added to those already being supported by Rice4Life.
During Martin and Margaret’s April visit, plans were made to extend the R4L model to two more very poor village schools in Siem Reap Province.
Agreements have now been signed so that the village school of Kok Beng is now to receive similar support to Khvien school and the recently added school at Kok Tachan.
The village of Kok Beng has a population of 1,214 in 264 families. the village is near the Bayon Temple and is 17 km from Siem Reap city.
The village relies on local agriculture following methods little changed since anciient times.
After the ‘troubles’ in Cambodia, a school was established in a timber building in 1982 and in 2002 a Swiss benefactor built them a brick building for the school, similar to the one at Khvien.
The school has three classrooms from Grade 1 to Grade 6. There are 236 students with 6 teachers. We are looking forward to building a cooperative and collaborative relationship with school director, Mr Chhoen Chhon.
