Fuses have been blowing on the school’s solar sytem.
Advice from a solar electrical expert in Sydney:
I presume the fuse is between the battery and the inverter.
A 15 amp fuse between solar modules will not blow as the module current is limited.
A 600 watt inverter at 24 Volts requires a 25 Amp fuse at maximum power.
Either the inverter is fully loaded with an under rated fuse, or if not fully loaded then there is an inverter fault.
Disconnect all loads from the inverter output and see if the fuse blows.
If the fuse blows without loads then there is an inverter fault.
If the fuse does not blow then progressively re-connect loads until the fuse blows due to a faulty computer or too many computers and/or other loads.
Computer power supplies are switch mode and on start up they present a capacitive load to the inverter.
The initial inrush current may be overloading the 15 Amp inverter fuse.
The inverter instructions should specify a maximum fuse rating.
