Our associate Kourosh reports:
Last month another house for landmine victims (Akira – Japanese funded) folded due to lack of funding and Bel the manager at KILT took on as many as he could give shelter to. But his own situation at KILT is desperate since the flood and I am doing my best to gather donations to restart some of the programs and enhance the existing Jewellery program which in addition to the small income that 4 members get from working at Maureen’s restaurant seems to be the only income that KILT has.
I’m hoping that we can with a little luck and a lot of work restart making the rice at KILT in the next few months. That will make things a lot easier in terms of ensuring that Rice4Life get the proper amount every month (i.e. not short changes a kilo or two a bag) and the right quality of rice. Since the flood we have been a little at the mercy of rice traders and rice traders are pretty sharp – like the traders of any commodity.
